The Deal Behind Google Vs Yellow Pages
The Yellow Pages is a household name, being ubiquitous in every home since before we were born. However, the Internet is slowly taking over their place. The Yellow Pages wants the people to know that they are still effective as opposed to their Internet driven counterparts, but of course, the online team says otherwise. In this battle between Google vs Yellow Pages, which of them is in the right? Which is really better?
In their quest to answer these questions once and for all, Melbourne SEO services conducted a survey in the streets of Melbourne with questions like: “How do you search for products and services you need?,” “What search engine do you use most?” and “How often do you use Google?”
When the results were tallied, it was overwhelmingly one sided. 53.85% of the respondents said they haven’t used the Yellow Pages the last year, while 100% used Google every day. That’s a lopsided result for Google over the Yellow Pages! So what else do the Yellow Pages have in the Google vs Yellow Pages war? Virtually nothing. The survey is probably the best viral marketing video Melbourne SEO services has done, so be sure to check it out and vote for it to help spread the word.
The survey however, is not all that points to the eventual demise of the Yellow Pages. According to SuperMedia, which is the United States’ Yellow Pages, profits in ’09 has suffered a huge decline. This will most likely continue to be the trend for the coming years as the Internet is slowly taking the place of the Yellow Pages as a source of information.
It is clear that in the Google vs Yellow Pages war, Google has the upper hand. If you compare, looking up something using a fat yellow book that squints your eyes or typing what you need then instantly getting the results you want, which would you prefer? Although admittedly, the Yellow Pages are here to stay, the question is, how long? There will still be users of the Yellow Pages, but how long will they survive? As long as there are people who still use the Pages, it will stay, but with the rapidly depleting number of users, the end for them is fast approaching.
People are not interested in the ins and outs of both, how they work, and other details. All they care about is getting what they need as easy and simple, and as fast as possible. With this, Google has the clear advantage. If you use a stopwatch to time how long it takes to look for an establishment using both methods, chances are Google will win every time. That is, of course, unless your Internet connection works at a snail’s pace and the establishment you are searching for is named “Aaron’s” then the Yellow Pages win there.
By any standards, Google looks to be the future of all things concerning information. Where the Yellow Pages was once king, it is now a distant second, even third place. If the future of books are threatened by the coming of the iPad and other technological marvels, what hope does the Yellow Pages have?
